Me and my family went to see Transformers last night. Amazing movie w/unbelievable FX... and LOTS of FX. If you like to see giant robots fighting and blowing up things, then don't miss this movie lol. Also, it's one of the few movies I've been too where the audience actually applauded at the end. Surprisingly, wifey liked it a lot too... and she NEVER likes action movies. But the one thing about it that she DIDN'T like was a scene where the mother talks about masturbation. (Well, she probably also didn't like it when the camera slowly wandered up and down Megan Fox's hot, sweaty body as she walked around and bent over in a short skirt lol.)
OK, so in the movie, the boy's mom and dad are wondering why his door is locked. Once inside, the mom asks, "Were you masturbating?" But she doesn't stop with just that. While the boy looks shell-shocked that she'd ask such a thing, she continues by using alternate, colorful phrases for "masturbation". The boy then says "No! I'd NEVER do that!" (He was a very believable liar lol.) I loved the whole thing, while wifey was terrified and embarrassed to have such words enter her brain -- and that our boys had to "hear such filth" (my words, not hers). Will she EVER get it that masturbation is normal? And that it's OK to talk about it? Or make jokes about it? I seriously doubt it. But since my boys will want to watch this movie over and over on DVD, they'll be seeing that scene a LOT lol. I just wish the boy had been brave and said, "Yes! I do masturbate! But now I have Megan Fox, so I don't masturbate as much." LOL.
Well, we live in an unenlightened world here. I'm sure there's many other parents who dislike their kids hearing about masturbation. While searching for the exact wording used in the movie (which I didn't find), I found lots of discussions on this movie scene... mostly started by parents who didn't like that a kid's movie had such stuff in it. Of course, those ppl get flamed by ppl who think it's OK... then your typical mini-forum-war breaks out. Here's an example of a thread like that that goes on for 14 pages lol. Well, I say "kudos!" to the director, Michael Bay, who was quoted as saying he's "proud" of the masturbation scene.
