I am disappointed about being cut. I wish that my parents had not had me circumcised as a baby. Circumcision removes 25-30% of the skin on a boy's/man's penis. I will be restoring my foreskin...it was put there by God for a reason, mostly to protect the glans of the penis, and therefore should not be just hacked off. For the religious folks, the circumcision performed by the Jews in old times was not a complete circumcision but a partial one. The circumcision as we know it today came about in the Victorian Era due to doctors "medical research" stating that removal of the foreskin would "cut down" on or "prevent" masturbation...I believe we can all agree that weather you are circumcised or not does not have any bearing on how much you masturbate. However, Victorians being the prudes they were decided to start having all of their sons circumcised to reduce the chances that their sons would masturbate or commit the "sin of Onan" (a story which they do not truly understand). The only thing they accomplished was to ensure that generations of men in our country have 1/4 to 1/3 of their penis removed at birth, and now days they can't even tell you why. I am not trying to convince anyone here that they should or should not support circumcision. I am merely stating my opinion (that I do not agree with it) and trying to give some historical background as to why it is done today.
(I am sorry if I seem to be on a soap box or anything. I am not. I am however a history major in college, and whenever I take an interest in something I try to do some historical research on it.)
