Direct TV QUSTION I NEED HELP?

This will be my first time getting direct tv.
I will order it online the question i need help is that i want hd on my tv and it say $10 service for hd do i need the service even though i got the hd cords to put it in the box, the blue green red cord instead of paying $10 more
